Manuscript legal documents, statements of accounts, and notes, in various hands, documenting the proposed purchase of land in present-day western New York State (possibly Broome County) by a group of Massachusetts and Connecticut investors doing business as the Chenango Proprietors. Association members, investors, and agents of the "Chenango Purchase" represented in the papers include Azariah Egleston, Jonathan Edwards, Timothy Edwards, John Harper, David Pixley, Samuel Brown, and Joseph Raymond.

Timothy Edwards was the eldest son of Jonathan Edwards, the elder. He was born in Northampton, Mass., graduated from Princeton University in 1757 and returned to Stockbridge, Mass. about 1770 and remained there until his death.
